How do limit orders and order fills work?
Limit orders are subject to market liquidity and the depth available at the specified price level. If sufficient liquidity does not exist at the limit price, the order will remain unfilled. The system does not allow partial fills, meaning an order must be matched in its entirety before it can execute.
Traders can analyze real-time liquidity through the Depth of Market (DOM) tool inside the Match Trader terminal. This tool displays available volume at each price level and helps traders evaluate whether their intended limit order is likely to fill. Using DOM is especially important when trading during illiquid periods, such as overnight sessions, weekends, or volatile market conditions.
Because partial fills are not supported, splitting large limit orders into smaller orders may increase the chance of execution. Understanding depth-of-market behavior is a key part of navigating Terminator Trader’s simulated real-market environment.
